During the first weeks at the Bridgeguard-Residence in Stúrovo, Slovakia, I felt the wish to get in contact with the people passing the Maria-Valeria-Bridge which connects Stúrovo/SK and Esztergom/HU. This bridge was destroyed 1944 and rebuilt 2001, not accessable during the communist time. I was wondering what almost elderly people got to talk about the past but because of the language I don't speak communication was not possible.
My intention was, to get the people and the bridge in a physical touch and make this visible. I asked them to touch the bridge by their own way of feeling. Most of them continued walking and didn't want to get pictured, but some were open and I had the chance to communicate not by words but by the simple gestures they did in connection to the bridge.
